Publish a ChatGPT canvas as a link anyone can open
By João Saraiva
A canvas lives inside ChatGPT. To send it to someone as a page that works, you can use ChatGPT's own share link, or put the code on a host. Here is what each one does, from OpenAI's own help pages.
Can you publish a ChatGPT canvas as a link?
Yes. ChatGPT's Share button makes a chatgpt.com/share link to a canvas, including rendered HTML or React. From a personal account, anyone with the link can view it. It is a snapshot shown inside ChatGPT's page, with no password, no expiry date and no list of named viewers. ChatGPT Sites, in beta for Plus, Pro and workspace plans, publishes a website you build in ChatGPT Work. It is not on Free or Go, and public publishing was not offered in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK at launch. For a page at its own address that you control, copy the canvas code and paste it at solta.now/new, or add Solta as a connector and ask ChatGPT to publish it. Either way the link opens with no account, and a React canvas works as it is, with no conversion to HTML first.

What ChatGPT can share by itself
OpenAI's help pages, read on 13 October 2026, describe two ways.
The share link
Since 6 February 2025 you can share a canvas from its toolbar, the way you share a conversation. What you share can be a document, code, or rendered React or HTML.1 The link starts with chatgpt.com/share/. A link from a personal account opens for anyone who has it. A link from a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace opens only for members of that workspace.2
Three things to know. The link is a snapshot: later changes appear only when you press Update link. You can't limit it to certain people, and it has no expiry date: you delete it when you are done. And it is not meant to show up in search, but anyone who has it can forward it.2
ChatGPT Sites
Sites, a public beta since 9 July 2026, builds and publishes a website or a small app. You start it in ChatGPT Work and describe what you want, rather than publishing a canvas you already have. It is on Plus, Pro and workspace plans, not on Free or Go. A new Site is open only to you and your workspace admins until you change who has access, which can include named people or anyone on the internet, where public publishing is on.3
Canvas itself is going away
Since 28 May 2026, canvas is not in GPT-5.5 Instant or GPT-5.5 Thinking. ChatGPT writes code in code blocks in the reply instead, and paid users can keep canvas on older models for a limited time.1 Everything below works the same for a code block as for a canvas.
HTML or React: which one you have
Open the canvas and look at the first lines of the code. If it starts with <!DOCTYPE html> or <html>, it is a whole page. If it starts with import lines and has export default function in it, it is a React component, not a page. ChatGPT draws it for you, but a plain host shows a blank page for it. Why a React file shows a blank page.
Solta takes both. HTML is served as it is. React is built into a page when you publish, with Tailwind and the shadcn/ui parts it imports, so you don't have to ask ChatGPT to rewrite it.
Way 1: copy the code into solta.now/new
- In the canvas, open the code view and copy all of it.
- Go to solta.now/new and paste it into the box. One file can be up to 2 MB.
- Press Solta. The page is live at once, at its own address on solta.site.
- Claim it with a link sent to your email. An unclaimed site stays up for 24 hours, and claiming it keeps the address.
Paste the code, not the chatgpt.com/share link. Those pages are made to be read in a browser, and when the box can't read one, it says so.
Paste your page in the box below
Way 2: publish it from the chat with the connector
Add Solta to ChatGPT once, and you can ask it to publish what it just made. The link comes back in the conversation. The steps:
In ChatGPT: turn on Developer mode (Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced; not every ChatGPT plan has it), create a connector named "Solta" with the URL https://mcp.solta.now/mcp, then sign in to Solta, press Allow, and turn it on for this chat.
Then say “publish this to Solta and give me the link.” Later, “update it” saves a new version as a draft, and the link keeps showing the old one until you publish. There is no key to paste. What the connector does and every tool it has.
Who can open it
Once the site is yours, you choose. Public is anyone, and search engines may list it. Unlisted is anyone with the link. Private is only you and the people who work on it. A password is on every plan, one site at a time on Free. Named people who confirm their email once are on Pro and Team. Nobody needs an account to open it, and changing who can open it keeps the same link. Who can open a site.
Questions
Is ChatGPT's share link enough?
For a quick look, often yes. It falls short when the page should sit at its own address, open only for certain people, stop opening on a date, or change without a new link.
Does it cost anything?
Solta's Free plan costs nothing, and the people who open your link never pay. Pro is $12 a month, for a password on every site, named viewers and every version kept. Pricing.
Can the page call ChatGPT when someone uses it?
Not by itself. Outside ChatGPT, a call to a model needs a key that somebody pays for. How a site calls a model.
What about a canvas from Claude?
Claude calls it an artifact, and the same two ways work. Host a Claude artifact.
