Newsletter template for the web

What it is

This month's issue of a made-up neighborhood newsletter, numbered on from its first issue. A masthead with the issue number, the month and the reading time; a contents list that jumps to each section; a lead story with a drawing and a drop cap; four short news items; four events dated from today, each with a calendar file; a Q&A with a neighbor; and a swap-and-share board. Readers copy a link to the issue or to the lead story, and print it: the buttons and the sign-up drop out, it prints light, and the page's address goes in the footer. The sign-up box asks for an email for the next issue. The page itself sends no email.

Who it's for

Neighborhood associations, clubs, schools, churches and small teams who write a monthly update and want it readable at a link and on paper, not only in an inbox.

What you can change

You ask in plain words. These are the kind of changes people ask their AI for:

  • “Make it the October issue of our school's parent newsletter, with these four stories.”
  • “Replace the swap board with a list of volunteer jobs for the month.”
  • “Add a photo at the top of the lead story, from this link.”
  • “Make it our company's internal monthly update, with a section for new starters.”
  • “Use our club's colors, green and white, and our logo in the masthead.”

How to make it yours

  1. Remix it. A copy lands in your library as a site of your own, at its own link. If you have no account yet, you are asked to make one, and the copy is made when you come back.
  2. Change it in Claude or ChatGPT. Add the Solta connector once, then ask for the change in plain words, for example: “Make my Newsletter the October issue of our school's parent newsletter, with these four stories.” It reads the site's code, makes the change and saves it as a draft. The link keeps showing the old version until you publish.
  3. Publish. Ask it to publish, or publish from the site in your library. The new version goes live at the same link, so nobody needs a new one.

Questions

Does it send the newsletter by email?

No. The page is the issue, at a link. Its sign-up box posts to /_solta/subscribe: turn on Newsletter sign-ups in Site settings and each address gets an email with a link to confirm, and the confirmed ones join a list you export, each with its own unsubscribe link. You send the issue, or its link, from whatever you use for email. Newsletter sign-ups are on Pro and Team; until they are on, the box shows the error that comes back.

How do I publish the next issue?

Ask your AI to write the new stories into the page and publish it. The link stays the same, and the earlier issue stays in the site's history: the last 5 on Free, all of them on Pro and Team.

Or start from what you already have

Paste the file your AI made, or publish it from the chat, and get a link of its own.
