Digital save the date template

What it is

The early notice for a made-up wedding at a farm near Asheville, about eight months from today. It opens as a card: the names, the date, the place, a countdown in days, hours and minutes, and the month the formal invitation will follow in. Guests add the day to their calendar with a file, share the link, and read three things worth booking early: flights, rooms and the weekend around it. One short form asks whether they think they can come, yes, hoping to or no, and whether the invitation should come by email or by post, to an address they type. Their own answer is kept in their browser, so they can come back and change it. Printed, it is the card and the notes, without the buttons, with the page's address on it.

Who it's for

Couples sending a save the date months ahead who want one link for the group chat, the email and the printed card, and the guests' addresses back in the same place. It works for any big date: a milestone birthday, a reunion, a retirement.

What you can change

You ask in plain words. These are the kind of changes people ask their AI for:

  • “Replace Maren, Theo and Hollow Pine Farm with our names, our venue in Lisbon and our date, September 12.”
  • “Take out the postal address question: every invitation goes by email.”
  • “Make it a save the date for my parents' 40th anniversary party instead of a wedding.”
  • “Add a photo of us at the top, from this link.”
  • “Change the colors to dusty blue and gold.”

How to make it yours

  1. Remix it. A copy lands in your library as a site of your own, at its own link. If you have no account yet, you are asked to make one, and the copy is made when you come back.
  2. Change it in Claude or ChatGPT. Add the Solta connector once, then ask for the change in plain words, for example: “In my Save the date, put in our names, our venue and our date, September 12, and take out the postal address question.” It reads the site's code, makes the change and saves it as a draft. The link keeps showing the old version until you publish.
  3. Publish. Ask it to publish, or publish from the site in your library. The new version goes live at the same link, so nobody needs a new one.
  4. Turn the form on. This template posts each guest's names and email, whether they think they can come, whether the invitation should come by email or post, a postal address and a note to /_solta/forms/save-the-date. In the site's Site settings → Forms, switch that form on; until you do, nothing is kept. Collecting answers is on every plan (how forms work).

Questions

Where do the answers go?

The page posts each one to /_solta/forms/save-the-date, at its own address. Turn that form on in Site settings → Forms and every answer lands in the Answers tab, ready to export as your address list. Until you do, an answer stays on the guest's device and the page tells them so. Collecting answers is on every plan.

Is this the RSVP?

No, it is the notice before it. It asks whether guests think they can come and where to send the invitation. For the RSVP itself, with dinner choices and plus-ones, start from the Wedding RSVP template.

Can I print it as a card?

Yes. Printing leaves out the countdown, the buttons and the form, prints light even if your phone is in dark mode, and puts the page's address on the card, so a paper copy still leads to the link.

Or start from what you already have

Paste the file your AI made, or publish it from the chat, and get a link of its own.
