How to open a PPTX file online
- Drop the .pptx on the box above, or press Choose files and pick it. A .ppt or an OpenDocument .odp works the same way. You don't need an account.
- The link comes back in a few seconds. Open it to see the slides, or copy it and send it.
- Without an account, the link lasts 24 hours. To keep it, press Sign in to keep it on the same card. The address stays the same.
Solta gets the slides ready as soon as you publish. Somebody who opens the link in the first minute may see a short wait the first time.

What people see when they open the link
The presentation opens in the browser, one slide at a time, with its name and how many slides it has. They move with Previous and Next, the arrow keys, or a swipe on a phone. All slides shows every slide at once, Present fills the screen, and Download gives them the original file.
Each slide has its own address, so you can send a link that opens on slide 5. Whoever opens it needs no account and nothing to install.
What shows differently from PowerPoint
Solta turns the presentation into a PDF with LibreOffice, and shows its pages as slides. Text, pictures, charts and tables show as they are. Some things don't come through:
- Animations and transitions don't play: each slide shows as it looks at the end.
- Videos and sounds in the slides don't play.
- Speaker notes aren't shown.
- A font Solta doesn't have is replaced by a similar one. Calibri and Cambria are replaced by look-alikes of the same width, so lines break in the same places.
Download always gives the original file, with all of it inside.
Keynote files
A Keynote .key file opens too, in a different way. Keynote saves a small picture of each slide inside the file, and Solta shows those pictures. In our test with Keynote 14.1, each one was 356 pixels wide: enough to follow the presentation and read large titles, but not small print. The page says so to the people who open it.
For the full presentation, export it to PowerPoint in Keynote first and drop the .pptx instead. How to open a Keynote file on Windows or Android.
Change the presentation without changing the link
Open the site in Solta, choose Make changes, then Upload a new version, and upload the new file. It is saved as a draft: the link keeps showing the old slides until you publish the new ones. Free keeps the last 3 versions, and you can put an older one live again.
Who can open it
A new site is Unlisted: anyone with the link can open it, and search engines are asked not to index it. You can change that at any time, and the link stays the same.
A password is on every plan: Free has 1 password-protected site at a time, once your email is confirmed. Nothing is sent until the password is right, the slides included. Who can open a site.

What it costs, and how big a file can be
Opening a presentation and getting its link is free. On Free, a file can be up to 10 MB, and you can have 2 sites live at a time. Paid plans take bigger files: each plan's limits. Viewers never pay, on any plan.
Other ways to open a PPTX file
If you only need to look at a presentation yourself, these work too:
- PowerPoint for the web is free with a Microsoft account. Save the file to OneDrive and open it there. Microsoft's old PowerPoint Viewer was retired in 2018.
- Google Slides opens a .pptx you upload to Google Drive, and you can edit it there. You need a Google account.
- Aspose's online viewer opens a file without an account. Its page says files are deleted from its servers after 24 hours.
Solta is for the other half of the job: a link that opens the presentation for somebody else, on whatever phone they have. Step by step: how to open a PPTX file without PowerPoint, and how to embed a PowerPoint in a website.

Questions
Is the PPTX viewer free?
Yes. Opening a presentation and getting its link costs nothing, and the people you send it to never pay. Without an account the link lasts 24 hours. Sign in to keep it, free.
Do the people I send it to need PowerPoint?
No. The link opens the slides in the browser, on a phone or a computer. They need no PowerPoint, no app and no account.
Can I open a PPTX file on my phone?
Yes. Choose the file in the box on your phone, and open the link that comes back. It shows the slides in your phone's browser, and you swipe between them.
Do animations, videos and speaker notes work?
No. Each slide shows as it looks at the end of its animations, videos and sounds don't play, and speaker notes aren't shown. Download gives the original file with all of them.
Can I open .ppt, .odp or Keynote files?
Yes. A .ppt or an .odp opens like a .pptx. A Keynote .key file shows the small picture Keynote saves of each slide. For the full slides, export it to PowerPoint in Keynote and drop the .pptx.
How big can the presentation be?
Up to 10 MB on Free. Paid plans take bigger files. A presentation with many photos or videos can be bigger than that, so check its size before you drop it.
Will my presentation show up on Google?
Not unless you make it Public. A new site is Unlisted: anyone with the link can open it, and search engines are asked not to index it.
