What it is
Four made-up friends and a cabin weekend: the cabin, groceries, gas, dinners and canoe hire, each paid by one of them and shared by some or all. Add a cost with what it was for, the amount, who paid, the date and who it is split between. Each person's balance is what they paid minus their share, and Settle up lists the fewest payments that make everyone square, each with a box to mark it paid. People can be added and renamed, the currency changed, and the settle-up copies as text for a group chat. Everything is saved in the browser. No money moves: the page only works out who owes whom.
Who it's for
Friends on a trip, housemates and anyone who keeps a running tab with other people and wants it settled without an app everyone has to install.
What you can change
You ask in plain words. These are the kind of changes people ask their AI for:
- “Replace the cabin weekend with our flat: rent, bills and groceries for me, Sara and Tom, in pounds.”
- “Let me split a cost by percentages instead of equally.”
- “Add a payment link next to each settle-up line.”
- “Add categories to each cost and a total by category.”
How to make it yours
- Remix it. A copy lands in your library as a site of your own, at its own link. If you have no account yet, you are asked to make one, and the copy is made when you come back.
- Change it in Claude or ChatGPT. Add the Solta connector once, then ask for the change in plain words, for example: “In my Expense splitter, replace the cabin weekend with our flat costs for me, Sara and Tom, in pounds.” It reads the site's code, makes the change and saves it as a draft. The link keeps showing the old version until you publish.
- Publish. Ask it to publish, or publish from the site in your library. The new version goes live at the same link, so nobody needs a new one.
Questions
Does everyone in the group see the same costs?
Not as it comes. Costs are saved in the browser of whoever adds them, so one person keeps the list and copies the settle-up into the group chat. For a list everyone can open, ask your AI to write your costs into the page itself and publish it.
Can it pay people?
No. It works out who owes whom and nothing else; the payments happen wherever you already send money to each other.
