Your own domain
A site can be served from an address you own — tools.acme.com rather than a Solta link. Nothing about the site changes, and its solta.site link keeps working.
Adding one
Settings → Domains. Type the hostname and we give you two records to add at your registrar: a CNAME that points the name at us, and a TXT that proves the domain is yours. Both are shown with the value to copy.
A bare domain such as acme.com is where DNS hosts differ: Cloudflare takes a CNAME there, and many registrars do not; for those, use the A and AAAA addresses shown next to it instead. If your DNS provider offers a proxy for the record (Cloudflare's orange cloud), turn it off — the domain has to point at us, not at the proxy. When it does not work.
Then you wait
DNS takes a few minutes, occasionally a few hours — it is out of our hands and out of yours once the records are saved. We check every five minutes without being asked, so a domain that lands overnight is live in the morning. The page also has a Check now button for when you have just saved a record and want to know.
The states are: waiting for DNS, almost there (the DNS is right and the certificate is being issued), and live. If something is wrong, the reason is shown — what the name points at instead, or which record is still missing — because that is the sentence that tells you what to fix. Once it is live, the certificate is issued on the first visit, which takes a few seconds; after that the TXT record can go.
What it does not change
The solta.site link keeps working and is never reissued to anybody else. Version permalinks, embeds and comments all behave the same. A domain is about whose name is on the address, not about how the site runs.
Removing a domain takes it down here and at the certificate provider. Your DNS records stay where they are — deleting those is up to you, at the registrar.
Plans
Pro includes one custom domain per seat; Team has no limit. On Free, sites are served on solta.site, which is a real address that works everywhere.
